Freshmen Night

>> July 15, 2009

One way of making us welcome in our school is having a Freshmen Night. And this night really hooked up ourselves as being united in our own department and felt the essence that we are just like one family. It's also a new chance and a new beginning for us to show our hidden talents, skills and a new attitude and personality to show to people. We should show what we've got like these two from our batch did.

Last July 10, 2009, the 1st year college from CSA-B celebrated it's freshmen night in the theme of "The Four Elements: Earth, Fire, Water and Air." They had several contests like the pageant, vocal solo, pop dance and lip syncronization. Maverick Allen Aguilar, an Accounting Student from the CABECS department represented their college as Mr. Fire. Aguilar won 3 minor awards namely, Mr. Jaunts and Journeys, Augustinian's Choice Award and Mr. ?????() and was the 1st runner-up for the title Mr. Fire. (For me, I think if Mav had a greater costume than John, he could have won. Hakot ya na tanan nga awards...nataktak xa sa costume..y nga daan Q&A..so ang gna basihan, ang imu appearance on stage and on how you carry your costume. Nursing b mu..damu budget..ge lang mav ah!)

Meanwhile Angelica Nicole Espanola, a Nursing Student, won in the vocal solo. Since high school, Lyka is really fantastic when it comes to singing. So no wonder why the judges chose her. So to the both, CONGRATULATIONS!

Well of course, the night in CSA-B would not be meaningful without us, cheng! We are here of course not only to watch but also to support our co-batchmates! "Amu kami na kaSOLID." Regarding sa program, similar to us(FN sa USLS) but different in a way that Augustinians brought it to life. Gets? "Lain gd ya kun sa san-ag! Mas sadya!"

Explore the WORLD: Try Google Earth now!

>> July 12, 2009

Google Earth is a virtual globe, map and geographic information program that was originally called Earth Viewer, and was created by Keyhole, Inc, a company acquired by Google in 2004. It maps the Earth by the superimposition of images obtained from satellite imagery, aerial photography and GIS 3D globe.

Google Earth lets you fly anywhere on Earth to view satellite imagery, maps, terrain, 3D buildings, from galaxies in outer space to the canyons of the ocean. You can explore rich geographical content, save your toured places, and share with others.

Google Earth 5.0 features:

  • Historical imagery from around the globe
  • Ocean floor and surface data from marine experts
  • Simplified touring with audio and voice recording

With Google Earth, you can view the star's constellation, the galaxy, the sun, moon and other planets at it's best and realistic figures as if you were roaming around the universe. It also gives you full information of the place you are searching and a video tour of the world. This is very useful for us people who are very curious of what it is about the earth's appearance and it's surroundings. We could really benefit from this program especially in geographic studies.

POV: I've been using this for several days already and it has been my favorite past time whenever I'm bored. I'm exploring KOREA! hahaaaha! No wonder! And of course, the galaxy! OMG! It's like for real! As if you were there floating! I really suggest that you download this software becauseit will really enhace our geographic skills and memory. And it also gives us knowledge about the cultures of other countries. THE BEST! Btw, in the year 2006?I guess? I forgot the date but there was an invention of a new Google Earth that can view the internal places of the buildings, malls and even your house! It can locate you, the exact appearance of your house or street LIVE! But unfortunately, the US Senate declined this propaganda for it will just allow or give advantages to thieves and terrorists to do their stuff. Make sense right? Well anyway, Google Earth can also be used in your iphones and PSP.

When Google Earth was first released, there was talk about it everywhere and they were overwhelmed with downloads. Since then, it’s become more and more popular. However, I’m sure there are a lot of folks that downloaded it two years ago, checked it out a little bit, and then haven’t gone back in. Here’s what you’re missing now:

10. PhotoOverlays: In the latest release of Google Earth they now have PhotoOverlays – photos that seem to be hung in mid-air or wrapped around a sphere.

Google Earth terrain

9. Improved terrain: The 3D terrain in Google Earth is the main thing that separates it from Google Maps. You can tilt down and see the mountains and valleys in beautiful 3D. There is now an option to allow you to choose the terrain quality (lower=better performance, high=more eye candy).

8. Time animations: Starting with the beta version of GE4 you could have time animations — items that update as time rolls by. This can be for long periods (spread of Avian flu) or for short periods (“Blues Brother” car jumping a drawbridge).

7. New layers: Google Earth launched with an impressive collection of build-in layers. They’ve added tons more since then. My personal favorite is the “traffic” layer, which shows current traffic speeds in metro areas (Atlanta here). Dig into the layers and see all of the great new items in there.

SpaceNavigator

6. SpaceNavigator support: If you’ve not used this 3D mouse-ish tool, you have to try it. It makes Google Earth a whole new toy. Read more about this at the Google Earth Blog, or try to win one by using GEboards.

5. Flight simulator: For a while, it was fun to try to fake being a flight simulator in Google Earth by simply plugging in joystick. With the release of version 4.2, they included a hidden flight sim. Simply press [CTRL]-[ALT]-[A] (Command-Option-A on Mac) and you can choose to fly either an F16 or an SR22!

Google Earth Sky Mode

4. Sky mode: Another great addition in version 4.2. By clicking the small “sky mode” button in Google Earth, you’ll be taken up to space and be shown the area exactly above where you were on the earth. You can browse, pan and zoom just as you would in earth mode, including support for the SpaceNavigator.

3. Flash support: Google Earth now supports Flash animations inside of the description bubbles (Windows only, though). This has allowed for obvious things such as embedding YouTube videos, but also for less-obvious things such as creating Flash-based forms to allow for an in-Earth message board.

Google Earth - 3D Buildings - Denver, Colorado

2. 3D textures: When Google Earth first came out, people were amazed by the 3D buildings you could fly around. Problem was, they were all gray – solid, boring, gray. Since they, Google has built support for textures on the outside of buildings and the result is some cool looking cities. Denver, Colorado is probably the best example (it’s the home of SketchUp, the authoring tool for 3D models in Google Earth), so check it out.

1. Tons more imagery: Tons. Terabytes worth. Google has put out about eight huge imagery updates since they first released Google Earth, and each one has added thousands of square miles of fresh, higher quality images. Go check out your house again and you’ll probably find that it looks much better now than it did a few years ago.

There you go. 10 good reasons to go get the latest version of Google Earth and waste some time. If you’re looking for more fun stuff in Google Earth, go check out the huge KML file collection at Google Earth Hacks.

Rupert Grint recovering from Swine flu

>> July 9, 2009

The ‘Harry Potter’ star took a few days away from the set but is recovering

Rupert Grint is recovering from a mild case of swine flu.

In light of the news that “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” star Rupert Grint was recovering from a small case of swine flu (and that his co-star Emma Watson hates kissing him — though that had nothing to do with his sickness), the real-life Ron Weasley has opened up about his recent experience.

“It was quite scary when I first found out I had swine flu,” Rupert said at a press conference yesterday, according to The Daily Telegraph.“I thought: ‘Am I going to die?’ But it was just like any other flu really.”

It’s a very good thing the actor didn’t get a more serious case of the virus — the extent of it, he says, included “a sore throat and I went to bed for a few days” — because he has quite a busy schedule ahead.

Really Cool, New Sixth-Sense Technology

>> July 6, 2009

Unveiling game-changing wearable tech

(start at 2:05)

Basically, Sixth Sense is a mini-projector coupled with a camera and a cellphone—which acts as the computer and your connection to the Cloud, all the information stored on the web. Sixth Sense can also obey hand gestures, like in the movie Report.

This was the video presentation presented to us last week by our professor and while watching that video, all of us were amazed and so surprised of what the new technology brings. I couldn't believe that this kind of thing would be possible. After watching this video, you would say to yourself, "Mabakal gd ko na."

There are also rumors spreading that the POSSIBILITY OF THE INVENTION OF THE TIME MACHINE might come. I'm really excited for that day to come...

Acquaintance Party: "We were part of it."

>> July 5, 2009

The Acquaintance Pary in the theme of "Arabian Nights: BED goes BOLLYWOOD" was so BORING and so like a KIDS Party. Why? "WALA SENIORS." They were banned in joining the program due to some reasons. According to sources, they weren't able to join because during the General Orientation, some of their boys are not listening. Just ask them why coz I won't post here the full story(basi sala pa d karun mabutang ko!).

(c kenneth bla semi-kalbo na)

Well, regarding the event, the JUNIORS won the JAI HO DANCE CONTEST and both of the FRESHMEN won the title Mr. and Ms. Acquaintance. For me, I think it's really unfair to put Ms. Noeda in the 3rd year. I mean, if you just saw the presentation of the 1st year, you would say, "Lousy na ang 1st year." But, it's the choice of the department. Maybe they did that to challenge more the GLADIATORS. What do you think?

Only few from the batch came but at least we reached a number of more than 30. The OBG and others was not included in the pic because they were on the other side of the gym. It was fun mingling, talking and again chit-chatting with them. Like it was our SENIOR year because we were sitting right where the seniors place is located.

(mabakal pa ko tne yakult glg wla na stock si mader. hahaha!)

After the program, we stayed at the BED canteen and did our favorite past time, eating. "Kahilidlaw sang pagkaon ni Tita Mayang, Khoppers Place, Pritong Manok kag baw..ang favorite sang tanan, Mealbox(you know...bse y naman ni cla ah!..kmu bla..)! hahahah!" Tasting the food of last year's moments really felt us with nostalgic thoughts that we keep on remembering the past we've been through. I really hope that this coming LITMUS 2K9, we will again meet and gather there to join the program just like the past.

Maverick to represent CABECS

>> July 3, 2009

Maverick Allen Aguilar is one of the representative in the CABECS Department for the Search or specifically, for the Mr. Freshmen this coming July 10, 2009 at the CSA-B Gymnasium during their Freshmen Night. Aguilar was also last year's Mr. POPStarquaintance so no wonder he was picked to compete for their college. Well, all I can say is "GOODLUCK MAV! Tani magdaog ka!" It will really give pride to the batch if you win! Btw, there are rumors about him that he's the "HEARTTHROB" in the school. According to sources, they say that girls from different departments are so crazy over him??!! hehehehe! Grabe mav ba! heheh!

Will you think Mav will win the title Mr. Freshmen?
